A deposit of £10 is now required which will be refunded if the box is returned on time. Hopefully the introduction of this system will be helpful to all of you.

Lending Boxes

Free to hire equipment and activity boxes on a range of subjects suitable for Brownies, Cubs, Guides and Scouts.

Boxes can be hired for up to two month periods. All we ask of you is that you pick up and return the box to Inspire Discovery Centre. Please call us before collection to book the box and avoid disappointment.

Boxes available include...

Astronomy

This box contains books, posters and information sheets about our solar system and the planets within it, as well as the star constellations. Also in the box are binoculars and a telescope to aid viewing of the night sky.

The Body

The body box contains information on how our bodies work and how to keep them healthy. There are a number of tasks and experiments in the box and equipment provided includes a half size human torso, bathroom scales and a pulse meter.

Electricity

The electricity box has an electrical circuit kit with instructions and suggested activities. The box also contains books and other activity sheets, circuit diagram, wire and a soldering iron.

Environment and Conservation

This box contains information on current environmental issues, many of which are global problems. This box includes tests for environmental pollution, recycling activities and more.

Flight

The information in this box ranges from identification of aircraft to instruments onboard the aircraft and the effects of the weather conditions to a flight. Included in this box binoculars to aid the viewing of aircrafts, some Morse code equipment, and a number of short activities.

Meteorology

Lots of tings to do regarding weather including how to make your own weather instruments and take readings from them. Also contains books and a number of information sheets.

Nature 1: Land

A number of identification books and keys are in the box as well as information on creatures that live off the land. Bug viewers and bug pooters are included so that the group and easily do some localised fieldwork.

Nature 2: Water

Similar to Nature 1, but with the focus on water ecology as opposed to land. Lots of identification information and equipment for fieldwork, as well as microscopes to look at the smaller water borne creatures.

Navigator

The navigator box provides compasses and various maps to aid in the planning of hikes. There is also local public transport information, various codes of practice that should be followed and local tide timetables.

WWT

This box has been donated to the scheme by the Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust. The box is based around nature and how land and water environments are linked. Lots more activities that are related to nature with more fieldwork ideas.
